The Cleveland Dental Hygienists' Association has the honor of hosting the 2010 ODHA Perio Symposium on Saturday, September 18, at the DoubleTree Hotel Cleveland South in Indepndence.
We are very please to have Dr. Michael Rethman and Jill Rethman, RDH, BA, presenting "Trends in Perio - What to Know!" The Rethmans are very well- known on the speaker's circuit and this will prove to be an outstanding presentation. Now that we need 24 hours of Continuing Education Credits to renew for the next biennium, this 5 hour course along with the 1CEU presentation by Lily Reitz, Esq. 2010 UPDATE: Continuing Education Requirements for Ohio RDHs
In the case of a dental hygienist who is seeking a registration renewal that is to be effective in the 2010-2011 registration period (registration that ended 12-31-2009), the dental hygienist remains subject to the former requirement to certify completion of a minimum of twelve hours of continuing education. For delinquent filers that did not meet the 12-31-2009 deadline and still have not registered, they are also subject to the twelve hour CE requirement. In the case of a dental hygienist who is seeking a registration renewal that is to be effective in the 2012-2013 registration period (registration due 12-31-2011), the dental hygienist is subject to the requirement of those provisions to certify completion of a minimum of twenty-four hours of continuing education. Therefore, currently licensed hygienists must complete a minimum of 24 hours by the end of this current registration period to be able to renew a license for the next registration period. |

The First Annual CDHA Oral Cancer Walk will take place on September 12th, 2010 at the Sagamore Hills Park, In Sagamore Hills, Ohio, from 8am to 12 noon.
• Rain or Shine! • 5K Walk - 12 laps around Sagamore Township Park (approx. 3.1 Miles) • Early Registration fee: $20, plus sign up people with pledges • Walkers receive a T-shirt, Goody Bag (after walking), Raffle Ticket, and an after party at Panini's in Sagamore Hills, a Platinum Sponsor for the walk. As many of you know, oral cancer is a disease that kills one person every hour of every day. Oral cancer is the largest group of those cancers which fall into the head and neck cancer category. More than 34,000 Americans will be diagnosed this year. Of those 34,000 newly diagnosed individuals, only half will be alive in 5 years. This is a number that has not improved in decades. When found early, oral cancers have an 80-90% survival rate. We as dental hygienists have an ethical commitment to inform people about the signs and symptoms of oral cancer so that we may reduce the death rate and hopefully have people avoid the pain and suffering that many experience when diagnosed with oral cancer. Since the onset of the war on terror, the USO of Northern Ohio has sent over 40,000 care packages to the troops overseas. Some of the items most needed are: mouthwash (travel size/no glass), floss and toothbrushes.
